Dee Weingarden with her intimate black and white self portrait photography, created only using natural sunlight and a pin hole filter, this work pulls you in. Whilst using no make up and all shot in the morning, leaning forward and into the lens these works create an intimacy and evoke a feeling of liberation and imperfection for Dee.
As a trans woman who started her transition 42 years ago, this juxtaposition to the expected polished image, these self portraits are stark portrayals of honesty and vulnerability opening up the “emotional junk draw, inviting you to take a look at what might be perceived as grotesque but are in complete honesty”.
Dee Weingarden originally from Mobile, Alabama, and who now lives in Los Angeles, is an artist, a nurse and a really good cook, her artwork has also circled the planet on a space shuttle.
